Abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine if college grade point average (GPA) by itself was an indicator of future high performance levels for engineers in a test and evaluation environment. The results of the study are to be used in assisting managers in making selections for future recruitment for entry level engineering positions. The methodology for the study used a correlation design to determine if there were a significant difference between recent college graduate engineers who were hired with academically superior qualifications (GS-7) and those who were hired without (GS-5), in performance, rate of promotion, and grade level. The results of the study indicated that there were no significant differences between the two groups with the exception of promotion rate. The entry level GS-5s were promoted to the journeyman level in less time than were the entry level GS-7s.
