Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of this research was to determine the perceptions of the employees of the Ministry of Information of Iraq regarding the uses and advantages of Linguafile/Bilingual Database Management system and their stated willingness to implement this system in their departments. Research methodology. The research design of this study was descriptive. The questionnaire was distributed and collected personally by a relative in Baghdad, Iraq who works as an employee in the ministry. Out of 248 questionnaires distributed, 191 were completed and returned, representing 77 percent of the questionnnaires. Findings. The study found that the employees of the Ministry of Information of Iraq, approved the Linguafile/Bilingual Database Management system. In every statement the approval was clear. The employees felt that the bilinguality of the system would be very valuable to them in their work, could help forecast human resources needs, would aid in making both routine and nonroutine decisions, would eliminate the use of the present manual inventory and would speed preparation of the material handled by the departments. Conclusions and recommendations. It was generally concluded that the vast majority of the employees of the Ministry of Information in Iraq wholly approve of the installation of Linguafile Databased Management Information System. The employees perceived the time and cost savings advantages of Linguafile MIS, and its increase in efficiency for each employee, manager and department. It was recommended that the Ministry of Information in Iraq begins its own research into the Linguafile as its official MIS.
